Lauren Hashian is an American singer-songwriter and producer, born 8 September 1984 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian and has been married to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson since 18 August 2019. They have two daughters, Jasmine and Tiana.

Most profiles stop at the marriage. Her own path through the music industry ran for more than a decade before she released a single note under her own name, and it is the more interesting story.

Growing up next to a drum room

Hashian grew up in Lynnfield, a town north of Boston, in a house where music was not a hobby but the family trade.

Her bedroom shared a wall with her father’s drum room. Long after his band had broken up, he still practised every day, which meant afternoons when a young Hashian could not hear herself think. She has since described watching that daily discipline as the thing that shaped her sense of purpose.

John Thomas “Sib” Hashian was born in Boston in 1949 and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. In 1975, after his discharge, Boston bandleader Tom Scholz chose him to replace original drummer Jim Masdea at the record label’s request.

He played on the band’s self-titled debut and its follow-up Don’t Look Back, two of the best-selling rock records of the late 1970s. He was of Armenian and Italian ancestry.

Sib Hashian died on 22 March 2017, aged 67, aboard a cruise ship near Nassau in the Bahamas, where he was performing as part of a rock legends line-up. Dwayne Johnson posted a tribute the following day calling him his second dad.

Her sister Aja is also a songwriter, and the two have written and produced together. Their parents named her after the Steely Dan album.

The years working behind the scenes

This is the part almost every other profile leaves out, and it is where her actual industry credentials come from.

  1. Emerson College. She and her friends built recording studios in their dorm rooms and used them constantly.
  2. Warner Music Group. After graduating she pitched the label’s catalogue for film and television placements, which is sync licensing, a specialist corner of the business.
  3. Paramount Pictures. She moved to the studio side, sourcing songs to fit Paramount’s slate.
  4. 2012. She left Paramount and moved to Florida with Johnson, who wanted to be closer to his eldest daughter, Simone.

Before any of that, in 2005, she competed on the UPN reality series R U the Girl, hosted by TLC members T-Boz and Chilli. She reached the finals but did not win. That same year she shared a stage with her father at a concert he played with Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau.

How she met Dwayne Johnson

They met in 2006, while Johnson was working on the film The Game Plan. She was working as an event planner at a party connected to one of his films. They began dating in 2007.

Johnson has said the timing mattered more than anything else. He was going through his separation from Dany Garcia, and Hashian had come out of a significant relationship of her own. In his telling, neither of them was looking.

The couple stayed together for twelve years before marrying.

The 2019 wedding in Hawaii

She and Johnson married on 18 August 2019 in Hawaii, in front of family, friends and their two daughters.

She surprised him at the ceremony with a song she had written for him. Released a year later on their first anniversary, “Step Into a Love Like This” was written and recorded just two weeks before the wedding, with Naz Tokio, Mike Zombie and James Kang.

Her daughters

Hashian and Johnson have two daughters:

Hashian and Johnson have two daughters:

  • Jasmine Lia Johnson, born December 2015, known in the family as Jazzy
  • Tiana Gia Johnson, born April 2018, known as Tia

Johnson also has an elder daughter, Simone, from his marriage to Dany Garcia.

Hashian has said motherhood changed her as an artist. She described herself as a shy child who did not become un-shy until she became a mother, and only then felt confident in her own body and her own feelings.

The vocal injury

“Step Into a Love Like This” carries a detail worth knowing. It was the first song she was able to record after a vocal injury that left her unable to sing for more than six months.

She wrote it, recovered enough to record it, and performed it at her own wedding, all inside the same stretch.

Why the debut took so long

Hashian released her first EP at 37. She has been direct about why. For years she was afraid to sing publicly, and she has pointed to artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish who had the nerve to put themselves out there young. She was never that kid, so she chose the side of the industry where the work happens off-microphone.

The EP was the decision to stop doing that.

Her net worth

There is no verified figure.

Several sites publish an estimate between $5 million and $8 million with no source attached. Hashian has never made a financial disclosure, and independent musicians do not file public accounts. Any number attached to her name is a guess, and her husband’s wealth is not hers.

Where she is now

Hashian lives in Beverly Hills with Johnson and their daughters. Alongside her own music she now works as a director and producer, and she continues to appear with Johnson at major events, including the 2026 Golden Globes.

The short version

Lauren Hashian spent her twenties and early thirties placing other people’s songs in other people’s films. She grew up beside a drum room, studied at Emerson, worked sync at Warner and Paramount, and then stopped.

The music under her own name arrived late, after a vocal injury and a decade of deciding whether to try at all. That sequence is the actual story, and it has almost nothing to do with who she married.
